Scripture Read: Psalms 21, 22
Key Verse: Psalm 22:1
“My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from saving me, from the words of my groaning?”
Observation:
As you may notice, these words are the very same words Jesus states on the cross hundreds of years later. David was going through great despair, but like Jesus, he gained victory in the end. In this verse, it sounds as though David is crying out of doubt in the Father, but really it’s an appeal to God.
Application:
I once heard in a song “We pour out our miseries, God just hears a melody, Beautiful, the mess we are the honest cries of breaking hearts… Are better than a Hallelujah”. God loves when his children cry out to Him. “Let them give thanks to the LORD for his steadfast love, for his wondrous works to the children of man!” Psalm 107:31 God wants us to call on Him in all times, but especially in our times of need because that’s when we are humbled and the most willing to listen. At times I have felt like David & Jesus and have felt forsaken by God, but He has always listened & brought me to my feet. I continue to turn to Him for guidance & direction, but because I tend to live in the flesh it’s sometimes hard to ask for help.
Prayer:
Lord, please save us from our pride and may we not feel forsaken by you. Allow us to understand your ways and be humbled in our times of need. Help direct us through our daily lives & glorify you. For it is through you we are able to gain victory and break through our distress. Thank you for your everlasting love and Jesus, who came down and endured suffering unknown to any man.
